Baseband Signal Processing Framework for the OsmocomBB GSM Protocol Stack
نویسندگان
چکیده
The open source GSM protocol stack of the OsmocomBB project offers a versatile development environment regarding the data link and network layer. There is no solution available for developing physical layer baseband algorithms in combination with the data link and network layer. In this paper, a baseband development framework architecture with a suitable interface to the protocol stack of OsmocomBB is presented. With the proposed framework a complete GSM protocol stack can be run and baseband algorithms can be evaluated in a closed system. It closes the gap between physical layer signal processing implementations in Matlab and the upper layers of the Osmocombb GSM protocol stack. The functionality of the system is verified with a testbed comprising a base station and a receiver board with RF transceiver and FPGA.

Mobile telecommunication has become an important part of our daily lives. Yet, industry standards such as GSM often exclude scenarios with active attackers. Devices participating in communication are seen as trusted and non-malicious. By implementing our own baseband firmware based on OsmocomBB, we violate this trust and are able to evaluate the impact of a rogue device with regard to the usage...

INTRODUCTION PORTABLE phones have been such a hit in the market because their small, lightweight design enables them to be taken along wherever the user goes. The inconvenience of recharging also means that long call and standby times are highly valued. To provide a solution to these market needs, Hitachi engineers focused on the high-frequency signal processing block, which uses more external ...

General-purpose processors have utilized complex and energy inefficient techniques to accelerate performance. In embedded DSP designs, power constraints have precluded general-purpose microarchitectural techniques. Rather than minimize average execution time, embedded DSP processors require the worst-case execution time to be minimized. Subsequently, Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) processors...

Recently, the non-destructive methods have become of interest to the scientists in various fields. One of these method is Ground Penetration Radar (GPR), which can provide a valuable information from underground structures in a friendly environment and cost-effective way. To increase the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of the GPR data, multi-fold acquisition is performed, and the Common-Mid-Points ...
